Neubeuer is a market in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim . The resort in the Bavarian Inn Valley south of Rosenheim was voted the most beautiful village in Germany in 1981. The picturesque market square with gate tower and historic Alpine facades forms the village center. King Maximilian I said of the view from Neubeuert: "That is the most beautiful view in the Bavarian mountains!"

geography

Neubeuer is located on the right bank of the Inn about 12 kilometers south of Rosenheim and 26 kilometers north of Kufstein . The border with Austria ( Tyrol ) is just under 8 kilometers from Neubeuert . The market is located at the foot of the Samerberg , the northwesternmost elevation of the Chiemgau Alps , on the edge of the Rosenheim basin and is relatively conveniently located.

Community structure

Neubeuer has 31 districts:

Neighboring communities

Rohrdorf
Raubling Neighboring communities Samerberg
Brannenburg Nussdorf am Inn

climate

The market town of Neubeuer is in the temperate zone . The climate is continental with hot summers and cold winters. Compared to the maritime climate (maritime climate) the precipitation is low, but when comparing the district of Rosenheim with the nationwide average, the precipitation is very high (due to the congestion at the foot of the Alps). The average temperature is around 8 ° C (see diagram). The "Erler Wind", a cold fall wind in the morning that flows north from the valley gorge near Erl (Tyrol) on sunny days, has a special influence on the climate in the Inn Valley . Gusts of up to 50 km / h can occur. As the day heats up, the wind usually subsides. An old weather rule in the Inn Valley says: "If the Erler wind stops before the noon, it stays nice."

history

Until the 19th century

In 788, Neubeuer was first mentioned in a document. At that time, Neubeuers and Altenbeuers were already known for their goods in the Salzburg Hochstift . Altenbeuern was mentioned at the time as "ad burones". The Roman road that leads from “ad burones” to the village center can still be seen today. While the bishopric of Salzburg withdrew from the areas east of the Inn, the bishopric of Regensburg expanded in this area in the 11th century. At the end of the 12th century, the Neubeu Castle was built and expanded to the largest fortress in the Inn Valley around 1235 under Konrad von Wasserburg, who held the castle hat. Under the protection of the fortress, the market in Neubeuert developed, favored by its traffic situation on the Munich - Salzburg axis and at the junction to the Inn Valley in the direction of Brenner and Italy. Since 1393, Neubeuert had market rights with extensive proprietary rights. Before 1800, Neubeuer was the seat of a closed court of the Counts of Preysing .

Community merger

On January 1, 1970, Neubeuen was merged with the municipality of Altenbeuern .

The local election on March 16, 2014 resulted in the following distribution of seats:

Party / list CSU SPD Green FWG Beurer closeness to the citizens
Seats 5 2 3 3 5

The Greens and the Beurer Citizenship , a new foundation in 2013, were not represented in the previous municipal council.

mayor

In the local elections in 2008, Josef Trost ( CSU ) was elected First Mayor with 55.26% of the valid votes. With Johann Schmid, who was the second mayor at the time, he promoted flood protection in the municipal area after the floods in 2013 . However, due to planned changes to the historic market square, he lost support among the population. In the 2014 local elections, Johann Nowak from Beurer's closeness to the citizens was elected to the top in the first ballot. He received 52.83% of the valid votes, while Josef Trost only got 35.66% and the third applicant, Johann Schmid, got 11.51%. Due to an illness, the election period of Mayor Johann Nowak ended on November 30, 2019. In an extraordinary mayoral election, the 28-year-old Christoph Schneider (Independent Neubeurer) prevailed against two competitors with 62.9% and has been since December 1, 2019 first mayor of the market town.

coat of arms

The entangled, golden boat hooks refer to the Inn shipping, which has contributed to the development of the place. The first use of the coat of arms is known from the 18th century. It was then forgotten again, and the coat of arms was only sealed with the incorporation of Altenbeuern.

Attractions

Historic market place

The historic market square forms a listed ensemble with the Church of the Conception of the Virgin Mary , the fountain with Saint H'Florian in the center and the largely original castle wall with watchtowers. The side altars of the church, the ceiling fresco and the processional poles of the ship's brotherhood document the importance of the Inn shipping for Neubeuert. The Salzburg Gate was built in the southeast and the Munich Gate in the northwest . Today, film recordings and events take place on the market square, such as the “ Red Bull Fensterlkönig” in 2013 . or the annual market lighting, which attracts around 3,500 visitors to Neubeuert each year.

Neubeu Castle

The mill quarry in Hinterhör

The Schloss Neubeuern is located on the historic market square. It houses a state-approved, scientific-technical and modern-language grammar school run by the Landerziehungsheim Foundation with a boarding school and day school for girls and boys. In 2011 around 200 students attended the school, around 120 of whom lived in the boarding school. The boarding school, founded in 1925, is one of the most famous in Germany. Jörg Müller has been the foundation's director since April 2006; Headmaster since August 2019 Carlo Ribeca; his predecessors were Jürgen Gude (since September 2002) and Armin Stadler (since March 2009).

Wolfsschlucht

The “ Wolfsschlucht ”, a quarry from the first half of the 15th century, in which millstones and grindstones made of fine-grain quartzite were quarried, cuts around 300 meters in length into the castle hill . Part of the south wall collapsed later. This remarkable geotope can only be entered at your own risk due to the loose trees above the gorge.

Mill quarry Hinterhör

The Hinterhör millstone quarry is located around 1.5 km from the center of the village in Neubeuert near the remote area of Hinterhör . Millstones made of quartz sandstone , a coarse sandstone with a calcareous cement compound, were also mined there from 1572 to 1860 . These stones were then shipped on the Inn. The mill quarry is one of the most beautiful geotopes in Bavaria , but it is one of the few that has been reshaped by human hands. Stone hackers carved a round groove in the rock the size of the millstone. This took about ten to 14 days. Then dried beechwood wedges were stuck into these channels. These were then continuously poured over with water, so that the wood swelled and the millstone burst from the rock. The 66 columns in St. Boniface and the portals of the state libraries in Munich also come from Altenbeuern .

From the 15th to the 19th century, shipping was of great economic and social importance for Neubeuert, as many goods were transported on the Inn . Mainly everyday items that were brought from one village to the next were transported in local transport. First and foremost, this was grain. However, bulk goods and goods that were difficult or difficult to transport by land were also loaded onto ships. Neubeuer shipped the whetstones, whetstones and millstones that were valued at the time, which were quarried in the millstone quarry or in the Wolfsschlucht, across Germany and Austria. Long-distance trade was developed in the 14th century. The impetus for this came from Venice , which developed into the dominant trading power in the Mediterranean region, but also from cities in southern Germany and the Habsburgs.

As a market town, Neubeuer was also of great importance for other places, because in addition to limestone from Flintsbach am Inn and Nussdorf am Inn and Nagelfluh from the Biber in Brannenburg, Neubänen also shipped the so-called Rohrdorfer granite. Upstream the barges were hauled (pulled by horses). The advent of the railroad and river regulations deprived shipping of the Inn from its economic basis at the end of the 19th century. As a result of this change, two-thirds of the properties in the community changed hands. Many craftsmen and traders emigrated, while new professions came to the town as a result of immigration, as the adjacent table shows.

Today there are shipping companies in several places for tourism purposes. The stories and traditions have been upheld by the Schiffleut Brotherhood Association since 1622. You can get an insight into shipping on the Inn in the museum on the historic market square. The Holy Cross Church in Windshausen in the neighboring municipality of Nußdorf am Inn is a reminder of the Neubeur shipmaster Wolf Hupfauf. The church is near the border with Tyrol . Before the Inn was narrowed by dams and hydroelectric power stations, the church stood directly on the bank.

The partly guided, 9 km long boat trip leads from the market square via eleven stations, such as the Neubeurer Wolfsschlucht, to the Hinterhör millstone quarry and shows above all the remaining pieces of the once economically important Inn shipping.

In the Inn Shipping Museum, various objects from the shipping era are exhibited, including a faithfully reproduced model of a "ship train" (1:20).

On February 14, 2014, District Administrator Josef Neiderhell awarded the theater community a special cultural award from the district of Rosenheim in the Beurer Halle. In August 2014 the theater community made a guest appearance in the courtyard of Herrenchiemsee Palace .

The choir, which was awarded the German Culture Prize, the Bavarian State Prize and the Culture Prize of the Bavarian State Foundation, embarked on a tour of Asia in 2009, where it was celebrated for its Haydn program in Hong Kong and Beijing at the Beijing Music Festival. In October 2010 an invitation from Pope Benedict XVI followed. In his honor, the choir performed Verdi's Requiem . In 2012, the choir group performed Bach's Johannes Passion in St. Martin-in-the-Fields ( London ). Most of the concerts take place in Germany. The choir has released numerous CDs. She also organized the children's choir music buttons . This was also often present on the radio. Under the direction of Pia Hausner, the children performed musicals and singspiele such as “Die Zauberflöte” (2011) or “Boarisch singa und spuin” (2014). There was also a youth choir under the direction of Robert Schlee.

Guest information on the market square
