Town center Neubeuer
( location )
Ensemble in the center of Neubänen Neubeuer owes its establishment and settlement to shipping on the Inn and its location on old roads that accompany the river. The place is above the right bank of the Inn, at the western foot of the Samerberg. Two older settlements in the immediate vicinity have a close historical connection with the history of Neubänen. To the south-east, further back from the banks of the Inn, lies Altenbeuern, known as 788, on a Roman road, a former town in the vicinity of which the Althaus castle ruins still rise. To the north, on the lower terrace of the Inn, at the old Inn bridge, lies Altenmarkt, now a village. Both settlements obviously had no development opportunities. Strategic and location disadvantages may have been the reason for the construction of a new castle in the 12th century on the Neubeurer Schlossberg, a mountain cone rising up from the Inn floodplains. In the late Middle Ages, the castle and the lordship were owned by various aristocratic families, in 1642 it came to the Count Preysing, who held it until 1853. The new settlement, which had formed on the southern river of the Schlossberg under the protection of the castle, was granted market rights in 1334. In the 14th century the market, which only consists of a triangular, almost completely built-up square and the loosely built-up area around the parish church, was fortified. The market traffic could therefore - unlike before in Altenmarkt - take place behind protective walls. From the fortifications, which were renewed in the 16th century, the remaining walls in the south and southwest and the Lower Gate in the east have been preserved, while the Upper Gate is a modern repetition of a baroque structure. The castle, which towers over the bourgeois property on the Schlossberg and whose Romanesque keep dominates the townscape, also provided substantial protection. The three sides of the square are of different heights and are usually built with inns and craftsmen's houses, including the old blacksmith's, and former buildings of the aristocratic rule, among which the court clerk's house No. 15 stands out. Plastered buildings from the 17th to 19th centuries with protruding flat gable roofs predominate, the former brewery, the rectory and No. 9, on the other hand, are buildings with half-hipped roofs that give the square a lively look. In addition, a small group of residential buildings in the Inn-Salzach style have been preserved in the northeast section of the square. The parish church, baroque on the outside and medieval in the core, is located at the lowest point of the market, the square it dominates and closes off in the south. Picturesque corners have been preserved between the residential buildings that are attached to the south of the church and facing away from the market square. the modern loft extensions at no. 23, however, have a disruptive effect. The square was redesigned after local fires in 1883 and 1893. Gabriel v. Seidl, who between 1895 and 1908 did the partly medieval, partly in the 16./18. Century expanded castle for the baron v. Wendelstadt transformed into a representative castle in the style of historicism, also had an influence on the reconstruction of the market in the sense of a baroque style alpine home style. The imaginative oriel and balcony extensions, facade paintings and other decorations are similar to those in Tölz - where Gabriel v. Seidl worked at the same time - remained intact. The image of the square was enriched with the fountain, the Hofwirt terrace and the chestnut plantings. Just as Seidl further developed his magnificent redesigns from the old building stock of the castle on the Schlossberg, he also respected the historical structures on the market square, but increased their picturesque effect.
