Ensembles

Hohenaschau Castle Hill

File number: E-1-87-114-3

Hohenaschau, castle from the south

Hohenaschau Castle, located on a cone of rocks blocking the Priental valley, forms a unique ensemble with the stately commercial and administrative buildings that are lined up along the road at the foot of the castle hill.

The castle, a mighty building that stands out from the Chiemgau mountains and has a great picturesque effect, was founded in the 11th century by the Hirnsberg family. The ring wall and keep of the main castle date back to the 12th century, the outer castle was probably built in the 13th century, the bastion fortifications in 1561. The medieval buildings were expanded, especially under the Count Preysing (1608–1853); the family v. Cramer-Klett , who owned the castle from 1875 to 1942, had further redesigns in historicizing forms carried out by Max Ostenrieder , among others . The same process can also be observed in the associated buildings at the foot of the castle. In addition to the baroque buildings characteristic of a small manor like Hohenaschau, such as the long wing of the rentier and the former orphanage, facilities in the style of historicism (brewery) or a Baroque style of home (castle hotel) were built around the turn of the century.

Hamlet Haindorf

File number: E-1-87-114-2

The ensemble consists of nine stately, gable-facing farms along the Bernau-Aschau streets and the fork in the street to Höhenberg. The Einfirsthöfe, mostly from the second half of the 19th century, some with an older core, have plastered structures, balconies and protruding flat roofs. At number 22, the 18th century home has been preserved. The courtyards are loosely lined up and surrounded by meadow floors. In an east-west direction, courtyards 22 and 23, which close off the street, create a particularly impressive rural street scene.

City center Sachrang

File number: E-1-87-114-5

Sachrang, Mount of Olives Chapel

The ensemble includes the historic center of the mountain and border village Sachrang. The place is located in the upper Priental, bordered by the Spitzstein and the Geigelstein, at an altitude of 738 m. The few old properties and the parish church are loosely grouped on both sides of the Prien, which is accompanied in its eastern section by the village green. These are first courtyards from the 18th and the first half of the 19th century, the older ones broadly laid out with upper storeys of block walls and richly designed arbors and gable arbors, the younger ones mostly with good plaster structures. The courtyards west of the river are dominated by the baroque parish church surrounded by the cemetery and chapels; on the eastern bank, where the vicarage and the Kramer estate are also located, is the Postgasthof, a ridge complex from the mid-19th century, the dominant building.

The village image is one of the best preserved in the Bavarian part of the Alps, it has an alpine-late baroque character.

Niederaschau church square

File number: E-1-87-114-1

Aschau im Chiemgau, the Maria Lichtmess church

The ensemble includes the Aschauer Kirchplatz with its historical buildings; it extends on the top of the Kirchberg, which stands out clearly from the valley floor of the Priental. The great long-distance effect is supported by the double-towered parish church as well as the very stately buildings of the old courtyard tavern and the rectory. In addition to its status as a parish church, the essentially late-Gothic church is also a ruling church and former burial place of the Hohenaschau lords of the castle. The rectory and the former courtyard tavern, both baroque buildings, also mark the square as a center of the former rule.

The ensemble also includes the area of the cemetery that surrounded the church until 1889 with the baroque soul chapel, in the north-west the elongated former farm building of the courtyard tavern and a group of residential and commercial buildings with flat saddle and hipped roofs, which border the north-eastern staircase to the Kirchberg and mostly after a fire in 1882.

Hamlet Mitterleiten

File number: E-1-87-114-4

The ensemble includes the three courtyards and a home of the mountain farmer's hamlet Mitterleiten, located high above the Sachranger Valley on a meadow pulpit on the Tyrolean border. These are single-ridge systems that are uniformly facing east, surrounded by gardens and small outbuildings. No. 2 and 4 have upper floors in block construction and date from 1663 and the 18th century, respectively, No. 3 is a stately solid building from 1822.
