Franz Zell
Franz Anton Zell (born February 28, 1866 in Munich ; † August 10, 1961 there ) was a German architect and folklorist .
Life
After completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter, Zell began studying architecture at the Technical University of Munich . From 1894 to 1898 he was editor of the German joiner's calendar and from 1901 to 1912 editor of the Süddeutsche Bauzeitung . In 1902 he was involved in founding the Association for Folk Art and Folklore in Munich. He also collected folk furniture for the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg . In 1912 Zell became a teacher (with the title of professor ) at the Munich building trade school . He was a member of the Association of German Architects .
As an architect, Franz Zell is considered to be one of the pioneers of the Heimat style in architecture in his endeavors to design representative country houses from down-to-earth forms made from traditional materials . Zell is the holder of the Golden Ring of Honor of the Deutsches Museum , for which he a. a. designed the staging and furniture of the pharmacy exhibited there. In 1952 he was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.
He was married to Paula Zell since 1908 .
