The Klosterhof , the former Baumgartenberger Stiftshaus, is located in the central pedestrian zone Landstrasse in the city of Linz . The building has been an inn with an extensive outdoor dining area for many decades . It is a listed building.

history

The first house was mentioned in documents in 1595 and went on in 1626, the former Cistercian monastery pen Baumgartenberg and after its repeal in 1784 of the Kremsmünster Abbey of Benedictine . This was done as a replacement for a monastery house in Herrenstrasse 17, which was now used as the bishop's court for the newly created diocese of Linz . The house was used by the Benedictines to house the physicum museum until 1883 and to house the Linz study library until 1928 .

The current building was built after 1652 and around 1693 a courtyard wing with a chapel was added. The right courtyard house was built in 1910 by master builder Matthäus Schlager . From 1930 to 1931 the conversion to the Gasthaus Klosterhof was carried out with the architect Franz Zell from Munich .

building

The mighty, three-storey, early baroque building with a hipped roof , freestanding on three sides , stands out due to the third floor, which was designed as a roof store and has small windows with ventilation grilles. Facing the courtyard is a five- bay arcade of the monastery, which in 1930 was extended over two bays. A small three-story courtyard wing adjoins the main building in the south to Bischofstrasse. The corner formation is sloping and the former chapel is on the upper floor. At the end of the spacious courtyard with garden wall in Bischofstrasse is a Stöckl with a square floor plan and a tent roof .

Inn

The Salzburger Stiegl Brewery has been the tenant of the house since 1929. Edith and Johann Dobersberger have been running the inn since 1995. On January 22nd, 2020 the OÖN report that the company of the same name is currently insolvent.
