The Palais wreath located in the 9th Viennese district of Alsergrund , Liechtenstein 53-55.

history

The original building was designed by Ignaz Drapala and was given a new facade by Friedrich Ohmann in 1913/14 . In 1915/16 another renovation was carried out on the ground floor by Oskar Strnad . In the interwar period, a large part of the interior was designed for the then resident, the Viennese banker and alcoholic industrialist Dr. Josef Kranz , designed by Richard Teschner . In 1913, Teschner was commissioned to furnish the ladies' bedroom. Until 1915 he designed pieces of furniture, wall paper and small everyday objects. Teschner's decorative sculptures and paintings fit into this ensemble, including Der Berg der Deutschen Arbeit . At the beginning of the 1920s, a syncretic overall concept was implemented for the salon with monumental wall paintings such as The Creation and the founding fathers of great world religions depicted in full figures, which soon developed into a local attraction. In addition, a series of portraits of Lilly Kranz, the client's wife, was created. A chapter of the Teschner exhibition in the Austrian Theater Museum was dedicated to this facility .

The interior furnishings had to be auctioned in May 1933.

description

The building, which is free-standing on three sides, has a massive twelve-axis street front with a rounded corner projection . Except for the two lateral axes, all axes of the ground floor and the first floor are optically combined by a groove . The two arched windows on the side axes are the exception on the ground floor, otherwise all windows are rectangular, with a simple gray frame and without roofing. On the ground floor they are partly provided with wrought iron grids. Two side arched portals with agraffes and a bay window above accentuate the facade. The bay windows support balconies with wrought iron bars. The balcony doors are decorated with a decorative gray relief decoration and a shell with a male bust. Groups of putti adorn the inner edges of the side risalits.
