Althaus castle ruins

The Althaus castle ruins , also known as Altenstein , Altenbeuern or Alt-Beuern , are the ruins of a spur castle at 550  m above sea level. NN high mountain ridge east of Altenbeuern , 300 meters north of Wieslering at Althaus , districts of the municipality Neubeuern in the district of Rosenheim in Bavaria .

The castle was built by the Lords of Beuern around 1130 and mentioned in 1205 as "castrum puren". It was a fiefdom of the Regensburg bishopric . In 1319 it was called “purch ze Altenpäwern”, and also in 1348 as “Vest ze Altenpäuren”, it was the predecessor of Neubeuren Castle to the west , a current mountain castle. The other owners of the castle are the Stettner von Altenbeuern from 1400 to 1541, the Barons von Pienzenau from 1576 to 1627 and the Barons von Thurn from 1628. Around 1607 the castle was destroyed by fire after a lightning strike and was considered uninhabitable.

The cistern well , which is said to be 25 meters deep, has been preserved from the former small castle complex and the remains of the keep in the northeast corner .
