history

The castle was built by the Lords of Hirnsberg and was first mentioned around 1100 as " Herrantisperch ". The Hirnsbergers, who also founded Hohenaschau Castle and then called themselves von Aschau, were feudal people of the Counts of Falkenstein-Neuburg , and they may also have been related to them. After the move to Hohenaschau Castle, the so-called outer line of the Aschauer sat at Hirnsberg Castle in the second half of the 13th century. In 1378 the castle was built by Duke Stephan III. destroyed by Bavaria and never rebuilt. After that, the ruin served the surrounding residents as a quarry.
The Speckerturm Castle was probably a neighboring castle of the Hirnsberg family.

Only remnants of the ramparts are evidence of the former castle complex.
