Penzing Castle today

The Penzing Castle is located in the district of Penzing the community Babensham in Rosenheim of Bavaria (Schlossberg 2).

history

In 1255 a Dominus Conradus de Penzingen from the Wasserburg ministry appeared in the Attel monastery documents . The castle was built in the 15th century in the late Gothic style. A Magnus der Reiter is named as the first owner of the castle in 1428. From the 15th to the 18th century, the lake and Sedelhof von Penzing appear as a ducal fief , for the first time under Kaspar Kyenberger . At the end of the 15th century the property was owned by the Fröschl family. The castle chapel was built by Albrecht Fröschl in 1483 , as is evidenced by a plaque in the chapel today. 1519–1543 Penzing belongs to the Berghofer family, 1538 an Erasmus Berghofer is called. From 1547 to 1620 Penzing was owned by the Flitzinger family. Wolfgang Flitzinger zum Haag was the hunter master in Landshut in 1547 . In the files of the District Court of Kling in 1597: Penzing belongs to Heinrichen von Filzing to the Hague and Pentzing, everything was considered by the old hero to be a freed court march, as he defended against the district court with proper tales. This status as Hofmark does not seem to be permanently secured, however, because a note from 1606 reads: was considered by the hero of ages to be only a seat, a small castle and Derffel darbey, before times nothing but touched the castle and a Mayrhof existed.

From 1639 the Counts of Lodron were the owners of the noble residence. In 1747 they were replaced by the Counts of Arco . Count Philipp von Arco owned the Hofmark Penzing until 1781. Then the mayor and wine restaurateur Franz Xaver Mooshammer von Burghausen bought the Penzing seat. Since the citizen was not able to exercise noblemen's freedom, the lower jurisdiction was withdrawn. Under the royal councilor and professor Franz Xaver Ritter von Moosham, Penzing became a local court again in 1815 and a second class patrimonial court in 1820 . On October 23, 1828, the knightly loaned lake and Sedlhof Penzing were confiscated with the jurisdiction of the royal district court Wasserburg. At times, the Jagdschlösschen Landenham belonged to Penzing's possession, but in 1848 it was sold to the brewer Enzinger.

Penzing Castle then and now

As you can see on the engraving by Michael Wening from 1721, the castle was located above the small Penzinger See. The box-like, four-story main building is covered with a half- hip roof. A wall surrounding this building is supplemented by farm buildings and a chapel. An outbuilding with a stepped gable can also be seen.

Even today, Penzing Castle is still a multi-wing complex with a four-storey main building with stepped gables from the 19th century, a gable roof and a rectangular wall, and a connecting wing to the west with a passage. To the west there is a two-storey saddle roof building and an octagonal gate tower with a pyramid helmet. The core of the complex is late Gothic, but was redesigned in the 19th century. The enclosure wall dates from the 19th century. The free-standing castle chapel from 1483 has an open bell cage and was renovated in 1982. During the summer months, the bells are rung every day at 8 p.m. The chapel is not open to the general public, but can be booked for certain events (e.g. baptisms, weddings).

An attempt is made to revive the castle through cultural events (Advent market, flea markets and music events).
