history

The first mention of a castle was in 956/57 as "in loco Hohinpurch".

The medieval castle was built by the Counts of Hohenburg during the 12th century. After the Hohenburgers died out, the castle came to the Counts of Frontenhausen via hereditary path in 1175 . When this count family with the Regensburg bishop Konrad IV von Frontenhausen also died out, the castle passed into the possession of the diocese of Regensburg in 1226 . The castle passed this on to Konrad von Wasserburg as a fief in 1234, and from 1247 the lords of Aschau were the fiefs. The Counts of Fraunberg zu Haag followed as fiefdoms between 1304 and 1566 . In 1566, the Duchy of Bavaria became the owner of the castle, and it was used as a caretaker's office. After that the castle was apparently ruinous, because Philipp Apian wrote in 1568: "Castrum pervetustum et ruinosum in colle ..."

In 1380 the castle chapel , consecrated to St. Nicholas, was rebuilt, and the fortifications of the castle were expanded between the 14th and 15th centuries, so an outer Zwinger was built.

In 1648 the castle was destroyed by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in the following years.

In 1804 the castle was demolished except for a few remains of the wall.
