The Wolfsschlucht is a former quarry in Neubeuert , a market in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim . The gorge is approx. 300 m long and located on the north side of the Neubeuerer Schlossberg.

history

Only a few relics are reminiscent of the time when open-cast mining was carried out in the Wolfsschlucht . The stone carver Johannes Auer immortalized himself on the north wall with his signature. There are also some holes for supporting scaffolding above the exit of the gorge. In the Middle Ages, millstones and grindstones were broken here and shipped via the nearby Inn in horse-drawn vehicles. The approximately thirty meter high walls give an idea of how many millstones were quarried here until the gorge that is visible today could emerge from them.

geology

The Wolfsschlucht Neubüsten is registered as a geotope with the number 187G003. The quarrying of the glauconite-bearing sand-lime stone created a gorge with outcrop with rocks from the South Helvetic facies of the Kressenberger strata . The green sandstones of the narrow seam layers were used for the grinding and whetstones .

Tourist importance

The Wolfsschlucht is not far from the center of Neubeuert. You can reach them from the parking lot at the town hall. After approx. 200 m you follow a small, unsigned path into the beech forest that leaves just before a chapel. The gorge is only used by walkers. The bolts at the exit of the gorge indicate that the gorge is also used for sport climbing today. On some boards the gorge is referred to as part of the Schiffleutwanderweg .
