The Mozart Cycle Path is a 450 km long cycle path in its maximum variant through the northern part of the Austrian state of Salzburg and parts of Upper Bavaria . The route, designed as a circular route, with a few variations in the route and the assumed starting point in the city of Salzburg, connects a number of historically documented places of work of the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart .

course

The Mozart cycle path coming from Eugendorf shortly before Salzburg

Starting from Salzburg, the circular route leads, viewed in a clockwise direction, first over the Berchtesgadener Land and the Chiemgau in a westward direction to the Walchsee in North Tyrol . One variant leads via Freilassing , Teisendorf , Inzell , Ruhpolding and Reit im Winkl , the other via Berchtesgaden , Bad Reichenhall , Lofer and Kirchdorf in Tirol .
Then the Mozart Cycle Path runs north along the Inn to Wasserburg am Inn . The route corresponds to that of the Inn cycle path . From Wasserburg, the route leads in a south-easterly direction back to the Chiemsee and then east over the Waginger See to Laufen .
On the one hand there is the possibility to take the short way back to the starting point in Salzburg via Freilassing; on the other hand, the route through the Salzburger Flachgau can be traveled from Laufen . This leads via Oberndorf near Salzburg and the Obertrumer See to Neumarkt am Wallersee , where you can choose between two options. The shorter of these runs via Eugendorf back to Salzburg, the longer route leads to the adjacent Upper Austrian part of the Salzkammergut , where you get to Sankt Gilgen am Wolfgangsee via the Irrsee and Mondsee lakes . From there the route leads back to Salzburg via Thalgau and Eugendorf.

The course of the cycle path can be viewed in OpenStreetMap .

Elevation profile and condition

The Mozart cycle path leads mostly through undulating terrain in the foothills of the Alps and partly through some alpine valleys. On the entire route, however, only around 2000 meters of altitude are overcome, which is why the route is also advertised as family-friendly. In total, around 90% of the Mozart Cycle Path runs on designated cycle paths and on side streets with little traffic. Most of the route is paved.
