Elisabeth von Samsonow

Elisabeth von Samsonow (born July 31, 1956 in Neubeuert am Inn, Upper Bavaria ) is a German-Austrian philosopher and artist. She is a full professor at the Institute for Art and Cultural Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna .

life and work

After studying philosophy, Catholic theology and German at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, she worked there as a lecturer for Renaissance philosophy from 1987, and at the University of Vienna from 1991 . Her early research was devoted to the philosophy of the Renaissance , particularly its occult, Neoplatonic , non-Aristotelian forms. Several works and translations deal with the astronomy of Johannes Kepler and the memory philosophy and cosmology of Giordano Bruno . In 1996 she was appointed to the chair for sacred art at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , which was rededicated in 2000 to the subject of philosophical and historical anthropology of art. In 2012/2013 she teaches as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Design, Bauhaus University Weimar .
