Breitbrunn am Chiemsee (officially: Breitbrunn a.Chiemsee ) is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim and the seat of the Breitbrunn am Chiemsee administrative community .

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the region of southeast Upper Bavaria .

Located on the north bank of the Chiemsee on the moraine hills of the Chiemsee glacier of the last Ice Age, Breitbrunn also has the longest shoreline of all neighboring communities. The village is located 25 km from Rosenheim and Traunstein . After Bad Endorf and Prien am Chiemsee are both 10 km, for Bundesautobahn 8 (junction Bernau Chiemsee ) 14 km. Breitbrunn is poorly developed in terms of traffic.

history

Until the 19th century

Breitbrunn am Chiemsee is demonstrably one of the oldest settlement areas on the Chiemsee. About 6000 years ago people lived here on the north bank of the Chiemsee.

Breitbrunn belonged to the Burghausen Rent Office and the Kling District Court in the Electorate of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

From the Urfahrn peninsula , King Ludwig II had himself transferred to Herrenchiemsee for his inspections - the Königstrasse from the Wolfsberg district to Urfahrn still shows this today.
