Enrico Mainardi

Enrico Mainardi (born May 19, 1897 in Milan , † April 10, 1976 in Munich ) was an Italian cellist , composer and conductor .

Life

As early as 1910, at the age of thirteen, he began his career as a cello virtuoso in many concert halls in Europe.

Enrico Mainardi worked as a teacher at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin , at the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome and at the summer courses in Salzburg and Lucerne and had several famous cellists as students, including Siegfried Palm , Miklós Perényi , Michael Steinkühler , Heidi Litschauer and Joan Dickson .

Mainardi formed a famous trio with Edwin Fischer (piano) and Georg Kulenkampff (violin), later Wolfgang Schneiderhan (violin) . He also performed together with the pianist Sebastian Peschko . In 1967 he also founded a trio with the pianist Guido Agosti and the flautist Severino Gazzelloni .

Enrico Mainardi was in a relationship with the actress Marianne Hold for years. His wife Ada Colleoni-Mainardi had a liaison with Arturo Toscanini .

As a composer, he created orchestral works, five concertos for cello and orchestra and chamber music. The estate of Enrico Mainardi is in the holdings of the German Composers Archive in the European Center for the Arts in Hellerau .

Enrico Mainardi was buried in the cemetery of Breitbrunn am Ammersee .
