Miklós Perényi (born January 5, 1948 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian cellist .

Miklós Perényi was born into a musical family and received his first cello lessons at the age of five with Miklós Zsámboki, a student of David Popper . He then studied at the Franz Liszt Music Academy , where he gave his first solo concert in 1957 at the age of nine and continued his training with Ede Banda from 1959. Enrico Mainardi invited him to several master courses in Salzburg and then in Lucerne in the early 1960s. Perényi studied further at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia , where he graduated in 1962.

In 1963 Perényi won second prize at the International Casals Competition in Budapest. In 1965 and 1966 he was invited by Pablo Casals to his master classes in Zermatt and Puerto Rico . He then performed at the Marlboro Music Festival for four consecutive years .

His further international career led him to the most important concert stages in the world. a. He also made guest appearances at the music festivals in Berlin , Edinburgh , Hohenems , Lucerne , Prague , Salzburg , Warsaw, Vienna and Winterthur and took part in events at the Kronberg Academy and the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades. In 2013 he went on a European tour with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle .

In his home country he gives concerts with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Budapest Radio Philharmonic as well as with the Keller Quartet . His close cooperation with the pianist András Schiff led to joint appearances a. a. in the Wigmore Hall in London, at the Edinburgh Festival, the Musikfest in Bremen as well as the Ruhrfestspiele and the Beethovenfest in Bonn.

He has been teaching at the Franz Liszt Music Academy since 1974, and as a university lecturer from 1980. One of his students was the current principal cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic , Róbert Nagy . In 2014 Perényi was given the International Chair in Cello from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

His repertoire ranges from baroque music to music of the 20th century , including contemporary composers.

Perényi's recordings have been made by various companies such as Hungaroton , ECM , EMI , Erato, Sony Classical , Teldec and Decca . With András Schiff he recorded all of Beethoven's compositions for piano and violoncello.
