Southeast Upper Bavaria planning region
The Southeast Upper Bavaria region is one of a total of 18 planning regions in Bavaria . It is located in the district and the administrative district of Upper Bavaria .
structure
The planning region of southeast Upper Bavaria is located in the extreme southeast of Bavaria between Munich and Salzburg and borders the Austrian federal states of Upper Austria , Salzburg and Tyrol . The following bodies are united in the regional planning association: the independent city of Rosenheim and the districts of Altötting , Berchtesgadener Land , Mühldorf a.Inn , Rosenheim and Traunstein as well as their cities and communities.
In 2015, around 816,000 people lived in the region. The area is about 5,225 km². The main centers are the cities of Rosenheim with over 60,000 inhabitants and Traunstein . Associated middle centers are Altötting / Neuötting , Bad Aibling , Bad Reichenhall , Berchtesgaden , Burghausen , Freilassing , Mühldorf am Inn , Traunreut / Trostberg , Waldkraiburg and Wasserburg am Inn .

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the Free State of Bavaria was divided into 18 planning regions on the basis of the Bavarian State Planning Act of 1970. The Regional Planning Association was established on April 1, 1973.
