With 3,054 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2004), Westerham is the largest district in the municipality of Feldkirchen-Westerham .

geography

The church village lies at an altitude of 556  m above sea level. NN and is located in the southwest of the municipality. The Mangfall flows through Westerham and the Leitzach flows into the Mangfall on the southeastern outskirts .

history

Westerham is first mentioned in 1115. Therein Henry Wester Haimer called, whose coat of arms is (a rafter) today in the arms of Feldkirchen-Westerham. On the outskirts of Westerham in the direction of Holzolling was the Westerhaimer Castle, the Kraxlburg on the Gschösslberg. Today there are hardly any remains of the castle, the stones were probably used in the construction of the church in Esterndorf . With the construction of the Mangfall Valley Railway, Westerham received a train station (at that time still out of town). This was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt in its current form in 1945.

The first larger industrial company in Westerham settled in 1966 in the form of the Spinner company , then an industrial park was formed on the eastern edge of Westerham and in the Müllerland in Feldolling . At the beginning of the 1970s the sewer system was completed, after which a brisk construction activity began.

Attractions

  • The Church of St. Peter and Paul is a branch church of the parish church of St. Laurentius in Feldkirchen . It was built in the 15th century, restored at the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 20th century. In 1923 a vestibule in the form of a war memorial chapel was built in the church.
  • Luitpoldstein: 315 quintals heavy marble block, erected on March 12, 1911 for the 90th birthday of Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria , who liked to hunt in the area around Westerham.

Westerham is home to a larger community business park. Among other things, the Spinner company is located here.

In Westerham, on the Mangfall Valley Railway, there is one of the municipality's two train stations, which is available for commuters to Rosenheim and Munich .
