Altenburg is a district of the community Feldkirchen-Westerham in the district of Rosenheim on the high bank of the Mangfall . The village is located in the west of the municipality south of Aschbach at an altitude of 633  m above sea level. NN and has 88 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2010). The Niederaltenburg estate is located below the village in the Mangfall valley.

A watchtower is said to have stood in Altenburg as early as Roman times. Around 750 the place is mentioned in the Fagana list of goods.

In 1050 a castle was built by the Falkensteiners , which was destroyed and razed by the Wittelsbach Duke Otto II of Bavaria. Around 1258 a larger castle was rebuilt by the Lords of Schalchdorf. In 1434, Count Otto II von Maxlrain acquired the Altenburg and enlarged it. In 1560 the Altenburg was rebuilt into its current form under Duke Albrecht von Bayern. During the Thirty Years' War the castle was the only castle in Bavaria to defy the attacking Swedes.

After several changes of ownership, Altenburg Castle came into the possession of Count Georg von Wilding and Königsbrück, Prince of Radali, from Barons Friedrich zu Hofstetten in 1879, who used it as a summer residence. In 1953 it was sold to an evangelical missionary service and a school for social girl professions started. From 1992 until the end of 2011 it was used as a seminar and meditation center , as a house of silence .
