The WL Gore & Associates, Inc is a fluoropolymers -, including PTFE , processing company. It was founded in 1958 in the basement of Bill Gore and Vieve Gore.

history

The founder Bill Gore worked in the research department of the chemical company DuPont . He recognized the potential of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), but his employer classified the processing of PTFE as uninteresting. The foundation pursued two goals:

  • to find new fields of application for PTFE and
  • to create a corporate culture based on personal responsibility and enjoyment of work. Bill Gore's famous quote: "The objective of the Enterprise is to make money and have fun doing so."

Today Gore is a leader in the processing of PTFE. Around 10,000 employees work worldwide in more than 30 countries and in various fields of application (electronics, industrial products, medicine, textiles).
