Putzbrunn is a municipality in the district of Munich , Upper Bavaria administrative district , and the smallest municipality bordering Munich .

Putzbrunn is located in the Munich region , about 15 kilometers southeast of the state capital Munich. Neighboring communities are Ottobrunn , Neubiberg , Haar , Grasbrunn and Hohenbrunn .

history

Putzbrunn was founded more than a thousand years ago. The evidence for the foundation of the town point back to the 8th century of our era. The documents of the Hochstift Freising in 770 name a certain Puzzi , whose clan most likely came from the Hachinger Valley. Putzbrunn is mentioned for the first time in the period 976–991 as Puzeprunnin in the documents of the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The name means something like "Fountain of Puzzi". In the area southeast of Munich on the Munich gravel plain , drinking water had to be fetched from a depth of several meters, and settlements arose around the respective wells. The municipality of Putzbrunn has been able to retain its rural character to this day, although it is located directly on the outskirts of Munich.

Population statistics

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 4,694 to 6,687 by 1,993 inhabitants or 42.5%.

Denomination statistics

At the 2011 census , 16.2% of the population were Protestant , 44.0% Roman Catholic and 39.9% were non-denominational , belonged to another religious community or did not provide any information. At the end of 2019, 12% of the residents were Protestant, 37% Roman Catholic and a majority of 51% are non-denominational or belong to another religious community.

On March 26, 2006 Edwin Klostermeier ( SPD ) was elected as the new mayor. He took office two days later. This was preceded by the resignation of Mayor Josef Kellermeier, who has been in office since 1996, on November 3, 2005. Until the new election, the official business was carried out by the 2nd Mayor Albert Tomasini ( CSU ). Edwin Klostermeier was re-elected on March 11, 2012 and subsequently on March 4, 2018.
