Martin Spanring (born October 14, 1969 in Munich ) is a former German soccer player .

Athletic career

Club career

The defender began his career at Putzbrunner SV southeast of Munich and later moved to the youth team of TSV 1860 Munich . In 1988 he was appointed to the first team of the "Löwen" in the Bayern League. After a year in Munich, at the beginning of 1990 he moved to Bundesliga promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf under coach Aleksandar Ristic . After the fortunes were relegated at the end of the 1991/92 season, Spanring moved to FC Schalke 04 . In his first season at Schalke , he was used by coach Udo Lattek eight times in the first half of the season. After Lattek was replaced by Helmut Schulte during the winter break , Spanring did not play any more games for the miners .

In the summer of 1993 Spanring left Schalke and signed with SC Freiburg , which had just been promoted to the 1st Bundesliga for the first time in the club's history. Here Spanring celebrated his greatest successes as a soccer player under coach Volker Finke . Among other things, he played in the UEFA Cup with SC Freiburg and won three times at home against FC Bayern Munich.

In the summer of 1997 Spanring moved to VfB Stuttgart , who was trained by Jogi Löw . Spanring was initially unable to regain its good shape from previous years due to many injury problems. In his first season he made 11 appearances in the Bundesliga and in the second season he made 12 games. In his third season, 1999/2000, he did not play a game for the Swabians in the Bundesliga due to differences with the new coach Ralf Rangnick . After a total of four years at the Swabian club, with the lost final in the 1997/98 European Cup Winners' Cup against Chelsea as the highlight (with Spanring being suspended in the final due to a yellow card), Spanring decided to switch.

In August 2000 Spanring signed a contract with the Turkish club Bursaspor , which was trained by Jörg Berger . He only stayed there until the end of 2000 because the Turkish club failed to meet its payment obligations.

To keep fit, he then moved to Freiburg FC , where he ended his career in 2002. In the 2004/05 season he played for the Kreisliga A club SV Kenzingen in the last 4 games of the season. Spanring played a total of 172 Bundesliga games in which he scored ten goals. Injury problems caused numerous forced breaks in his career.

Selection bets

Of his four games for Germany's U-21 team , one match was a competitive game: In the opening match for qualifying for the U-21 European Championship in 1992 , the DFB team won 3-0 against Luxembourg . Under national coach Berti Vogts , the defender was appointed several times in the extended squad of the senior national team. In a friendly against Denmark in March 1996 (2-0) Spanring was on the bench with the DFB team, but was not substituted on.

Further career

Spanring has been working as a sports manager at Europa-Park in Rust since the end of his active career .
