Dieter Buroch (born March 5, 1951 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German cultural manager . From 1988 to 2011 he was director of the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt am Main.

Live and act

From 1973 to 1976 Buroch worked as a freelance artist. In addition, he designed and organized concerts, festivals and exhibitions. In 1976 he co-founded the artist group Omnibus and in the following year organized a nine-day festival with the group in the empty, ruinous rooms and halls of the former Mouson perfume factory in Frankfurt's Nordend , which was a great success with the public. The Frankfurt cultural department head Hilmar Hoffmann (“Culture for Everyone”) then brought Buroch to the city's cultural office as head of department.

With a small budget but a lot of ideas, Buroch then organized the series Lieder im Park , Literary Wednesday , Cabaret in the Römer and the Wednesday break under the name Summertime Festival for Frankfurt , up to the jazz in the museum , which still existed until 2013 , as well as world music in the palm garden . 1986 staged Buroch along with the Liquid Sound creator Micky Remann in Frankfurt Stadtbad Mitte the "first Frankfurter Unterwasserkonzert ”and in the same year the Transworld Telephone Concert in the Kunsthalle Schirn .

Mousonturm artist house

In 1976, the city of Frankfurt bought the Mouson site at auction, which was then converted into an alternative cultural center for the fine arts, theater, literature and music under the direction of Buroch and later technical director Karl Krause. On December 29, 1988 the house was officially put into operation under the managing director and artistic director Buroch.

In 1991 he founded the SOAP Dance Theater at Mousonturm and was producer and general manager until its dissolution in 1998. In 1994 he initiated the German Producer Prize for Choreography (DPC) , which was awarded until 1998 and which was one of the most important funding models and the most valuable prizes in Germany. Since 1996 Buroch has worked as a seminar leader internationally, including for the Goethe Institute and from 1999 as a lecturer at the Institute for Cultural Policy at the University of Hildesheim . From 2001 to 2002 he was managing director of Manifesta 4, the European Biennale of Contemporary Art in Frankfurt. In 2006 he became artistic director of the 6th International Summer Academy and in 2004 co-founder of the Institute for Culture & Management (IKM) for the qualification of artists. From 2006 to 2011 he was the project manager of Tanzlabor 21 (Tanzbasis Frankfurt Rhein-Main). In 2010 he founded the dance company "Kidd Pivot FrankfurtRM '" at Mousonturm, which was directed by the choreographer Crystal Pite .

In 2012 he curated the festival DANCE - Munich with Nina Hümpel , since 2012 Buroch has been the artistic director of Dance Rhein / Main .
