Von Schnitzler began with figurative sculptures in the 1950s, which was followed by an informal work phase from the late 1950s to the early 1960s . From around 1962 to 1965 she created a number of torsos and fragments. From the late 1960s onwards, the very slender, polished wooden steles were created, some of which she had cast in bronze. They derive their haunting, contemplative effect from the female silhouette, which has only been adopted as a symbol, on the one hand, the abstract play of curved lines, thickening and thinning on the stele on the other, and finally from the thrift with which von Schnitzler uses these sculptural means. The steles, although mummy-like in appearance, radiate self-assurance and autonomy. But one may also want to read from them loneliness.
