Jouni Pellinen (born May 11, 1983 in Imatra ) is a Finnish freestyle skier . He specializes in the discipline of ski cross .

biography

Pellinen was an alpine ski racer at the beginning of his sports career . In January 2000 he competed in the first FIS races , appearances in the European Cup followed from December 2004. Also in 2004 he won the Finnish championship title in giant slalom. The first race in the World Cup followed a year later. Pellinen was only able to classify himself once in the points, on December 20, 2006 as the 28th of the Super-G from Hinterstoder . At the 2007 World Cup , he reached fourth place in the team competition with the Finnish team . There were no further successes.

Pellinen has only sporadically competed in alpine races since the 2008/09 season, as he turned to ski cross . He made his debut in the Freestyle World Cup on January 5th, 2009 in St. Johann in Tirol , where he finished 33rd. Nine days later he established himself at the top of the world with fifth place in Flaine . His best result in the 2009/10 World Cup season was a tenth place. Due to a knee injury, he was unable to participate in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the 2010/11 World Cup season, Pellinen established himself at the top of the world with several top 10 results. The best result of his career so far he achieved at the 2011 World Cup in Deer Valley , where he unexpectedly won the silver medal behind Canadian Christopher Del Bosco . On March 3, 2011, with second place in Grindelwald, he achieved his first podium in a World Cup race. Three days later he celebrated his first victory in Hasliberg .
