Ferdinand Blum (born October 3, 1865 in Frankfurt am Main , † November 15, 1959 in Zurich ) was a German physiologist .

Life

After receiving his doctorate in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1889 ( experimental studies on the binding of hydrochloric acid in artificial digestion (from the chemical laboratory of Prof. Dr. Baumann ) ) he was director of the Biological Institute in Frankfurt am Main from 1911 to 1939. He did research on physiology and endocrinology, especially the adrenal glands, the pancreas and the thyroid gland. He discovered the blood sugar-increasing effect of adrenaline.
