Gustav Mori

Gustav Mori (born June 2, 1872 in Frankfurt am Main , † July 22, 1950 in Neu-Isenburg ) was a German printer, type casting technician and printing researcher, especially in the field of early prints .

Life

Gustav Mori, born in 1872, initially worked as a book printer. From 1909 he worked at the D. Stempel type foundry in Frankfurt am Main as a practitioner, theorist and historian of the writing industry. From 1921 to 1949 he was a member of the board of the Gutenberg Society . In 1947 he was awarded the Goethe plaque by the city of Frankfurt am Main .

Act

In addition to his practical work in the field of type foundry, Mori researched the history of book printing . In 1928 he reconstructed the type material for the 42-line Gutenberg Bible . It was cast at D. Stempel AG. Sample sets of these were sent to the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, where they contributed to the development of the historical printing workshop. He also reconstructed the large Psalter Type of the Canon Missae , which was published in the Gutenberg year 1940. Parts of his collections are in the Gutenberg Museum Mainz and in the Frankfurt University Library . Individual copies from the Mori provenance are also in the Mainz City Library .
