Albert Richard Mohr (born December 27, 1911 in Frankfurt am Main ; † July 23, 1992 ibid) was a German music and theater scholar. He was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Life

After studying at the University of Frankfurt , Mohr initially worked as an assistant at the musicological seminar, during which time he also founded the working group for new music. From 1937 to 1943 he was a lecturer in music and theater history at the State University of Music . He later worked, among other things, as a dramaturge and artistic director of operations at the Frankfurt Opera until it was destroyed in the war in 1944.

After that, Mohr worked full-time as a license holder for music theater at the Federal Employment Agency until 1976. His voluntary work was particularly important. Among other things, he campaigned for the reconstruction of destroyed cultural sites such as the old opera. In 1969 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of San Carlo in Rome, and from 1970 he was a lifetime professor at Southern Illinois University .

Awards

Mohr was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1989 , and he has also received numerous other awards, including the plaque of honor in 1972 and the Goethe plaque of the city of Frankfurt am Main in 1976 . His grave in Frankfurt's main cemetery is an honor grave .
