Vittorio Klostermann
Vittorio Julius Klostermann (born December 29, 1901 in Jena , † August 29, 1977 in Müllheim (Baden) ) was a German publisher .
Life
His father Eckard Klostermann joined the Frommann'sche Buch- und Kunsthandlung in Jena as a personally liable partner in 1900 and later took over the management of the entire company from Friedrich Cohen in Bonn .
Vittorio Klostermann was initially also employed in the Frommann'sche bookstore. In 1924 he followed his father to Bonn, where he first worked in Cohen's range and second-hand bookshop. During this time he attended lectures in Bonn, Cologne and Munich . In 1928 he took over the management of the humanities publishing house from Friedrich Cohen. For financial reasons and against the background of the global economic crisis , Cohen's publishing activities soon had to be stopped.
As a result, Vittorio Klostermann founded his own publishing house and an antiquarian bookshop on October 1, 1930 in Frankfurt am Main . The publishing house Vittorio Klostermann advanced within the next few years to one of the leading philosophical publishers in Germany and was characterized by close personal contacts between the publisher and leading scientists and philosophers. The publishing program was gradually expanded to include the areas of law , Romance studies , German studies and librarianship .
In 1937 Vittorio Klostermann and the actress Helena Klostermann , b. Gries (* 1918; † 2003). The marriage has three children:
- Michael Klostermann (* 1939; † 1992)
- Twin sister Petra Angiolina (* 1950, † 1978)
- Twin brother Vittorio Eckard Klostermann (* 1950).
From 1948 to 1949 Klostermann was the head of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association .
In 1976 Vittorio Klostermann handed over the management of the publishing house to the two sons. After the death of Michael Klostermann, the GmbH is managed by Vittorio E. Klostermann as managing partner.
Award
- 1961: Honorary doctorate in law from the University of Freiburg im Breisgau and honorary doctorate in philosophy from the University of Cologne
- 1961: Goethe plaque from the city of Frankfurt am Main
