Dorothee Hess-Maier

Dorothee Margarete Helene Ursula Hess-Maier , b. Maier , (born November 6, 1936 in Bad Waldsee ) is a German publisher . She was a member of the management of Otto Maier Verlag as well as the board of directors of Ravensburger AG and was the first woman in its 185-year history to be head of the German Book Trade Association .

Life

Dorothee Hess-Maier is the daughter of the Maier publishing family. Her father Eugen Maier died in World War II , her mother Albertine Maier-Dependorf was a painter and graphic artist .

Dorothee Hess-Maier graduated from high school in Munich , then took courses at the Missouri State University in Springfield (USA) and temporarily studied art history in Munich . Until 1959 she worked at the Munich advertising agency Bußkamp + Koch . Then she did an apprenticeship as a publisher at the family-owned Otto Maier Verlag in Ravensburg .

In 1966, at the age of 30, she was a partner in the editing department of the book publisher and ultimately the entire book publisher. Together with her cousin Otto Julius Maier , she ran the book and games publisher from 1978. From 1995 to 2000 she was spokeswoman on the three-person board of the Ravensburger AG group. 2006 to 2015 was Dorothee Hess-Maier deputy chairman of the Supervisory Board of the company.

Since 1986 she has been a member of the board of directors of the German Book Trade Association. From 1989 to 1992 she was the first woman in this position to be its head.

Since 2000, Hess-Maier has been chairwoman of the non-profit foundation Ravensburger Verlag, which was established by the Ravensburger AG group and its shareholders. The foundation focuses on children, families, education and upbringing.

Dorothee Hess-Maier was a member of the Baden-Württemberg Education Council in the 13th legislative period . From 2005 to 2007 she had a seat on the supervisory board of the State Institute for School Development and has been a member of the university council of the Weingarten University of Education since 2000 .

Hess-Maier was married to William Hess, who died in 1994. She has two sons.
