August Georg Ludwig de Bary (born February 17, 1874 in Frankfurt am Main ; † October 10, 1954 there ) was a German doctor and local politician.

Career

Bary was the son of Johann Jakob de Bary and his wife Maria Karoline Julie née Kriegk (1845-1931). He attended the humanistic grammar school in Frankfurt and studied medicine in Heidelberg, Berlin and Freiburg, where he received his doctorate in 1897. After working as an assistant at the Hospital of the Holy Spirit in Frankfurt, he came to the local Clementine Children's Hospital there in 1902, as its chief physician (1912 to 1928), he shaped this institution for almost a decade and a half and was particularly committed to improving the education of nurses within the framework of the Patriotic Women's Association . From his father Jakob de Bary he took over the position on the board of the Carolinum , the dental university clinic, of which he later became chairman. From 1928 to 1933 he was also chairman of the Hessen-Nassau Medical Association , and from 1933 to 1953 he was manager of the Frankfurt community hospital .

In addition, from 1933 he was chairman of the administration of the Senckenberg Foundation , the history of which he worked on and a catalog raisonné of the foundation's own portrait collection made for the first time. After the end of the war he was an honorary city councilor in Frankfurt from 1948 to 1952 and a member of the board of the German Hospital Society from 1949 to 1952.
