history

La Rebel was formed during a home game played by the Pumas on January 18, 1998, which was won 3-1 against Atlético Celaya . For the most part, former members of the Porra Plus fan group were involved in its creation .

The rise of the rebels set new, but not always gratifying, standards in capital city football . Were also the Porra Plus occasionally responsible for minor skirmishes, the since the existence Rebel recorded an increased potential for violence, which particularly in the city derby against Club America breaks out. Both clubs come from the Coyoacán district and their stadiums are just a few kilometers apart. A fact that makes their rivalry all the more intense. At the same time, two large Ultrà groups emerged in the vicinity of Club America, which were named La Monumental and Ritual del Kaoz . These too bear part of the responsibility for the increased incidence of violence, although the main responsibility for this is attributed to La Rebel .

The first notable incident occurred in 2001 when a Club América fan bus in the immediate vicinity of the Estadio Olímpico Universitario was attacked and smashed.

As early as May 18 of the following year, following the Clásico Capitalino , as the derby between Pumas and Americanistas is called, street battles broke out in the course of which around 300 people were arrested. The Pumas had previously lost 2-1 in the semi-final second leg of the Mexican soccer championship against America and were out of the race after 0-0 in the first leg. As the Americanistas left the stadium, they were attacked by the Pumas fans and one of the biggest mass brawls in the history of Mexican football developed .

The Clásico Capitalino is classified as the only game of the Mexican Primera División as a high risk game; And although the number of police forces in the vicinity of the derbies increased by 50 percent (from two thousand to three thousand) between 2007 and 2010 alone, violent clashes between the two fan camps occur again and again, allegedly in the majority of cases by members of La Rebels are instigated.
