Peter Eschberg

Peter Eschberg (born October 20, 1936 in Vienna ) is a German actor , director and artistic director .

Life and accomplishments

Peter Eschberg was born the son of the painter Josef Eschberg . After attending the humanistic grammar school, he studied German and theater studies and also completed courses in acting and directing at the Max Reinhardt Seminar .

From 1959 to 1965 Eschberg was engaged as an actor at the Münchner Kammerspiele , followed by engagements in Frankfurt am Main and Berlin from 1965 to 1968 . From 1968 to 1980 he worked as an actor and director at the Schauspiel Köln , where he was also a board member since 1976. From 1981 to 1991 Eschberg was artistic director at the Bonn Theater , before he was artistic director at the Frankfurter Schauspiel from 1991 to 2001 . In the course of his career, Eschberg also gave numerous guest appearances at home and abroad.

Eschberg has been married to Carmen-Renate Köper since 1967 and has a son (Peter).

Eschberg was appointed professor in 1987 and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in the same year .
