Blitzenrod is a formerly independent municipality and has been part of the central Hessian district town of Lauterbach since April 1, 1939 .

geography

The place borders Lauterbach in the north and can therefore hardly be separated from the actual city. About 1 km to the west is Frischborn , in the south in 1 km distance is Eisenbach with the castle Eisenbach , 3 km in the east is Angersbach and the same distance it is to Rudlos in the southeast. The course of the Lauter goes through the village and the meadows and forests surrounding the district to the east and south-east of Blitzenrod are exemplary of the special nature of the Vogelsberg .

history

The oldest known written mention of Blitzenrod took place in 1428 under the name Blitzenrode .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Blitzenrod in 1830:

"Blitzenrod (L. Bez. Lauterbach) evangel. Branch village; Located in Vogelsberg 12 St. von Lauterbach, belongs to the Baron von Riedesel, has 7 houses and 57 evangelists. Residents; "

On April 1, 1939, the municipality Blitzenrod was in the city Lauterbach incorporated .

Place name

The origin of the name Blitzenrod goes back to the assumption that the area of the place was previously cleared by lightning strikes and fire .

Hat factory

The oldest hat and cap factory in Germany, the R&M Wegener company, is located directly on the B 275 in Blitzenrod . The spacious building was taken over by R&M Wegener on March 1, 1884, after the site had been used as a spinning mill for years, but it burned down.

Territorial history and administration

The following list gives an overview of the territories in which Blitzenrod was located and the administrative units to which it was subordinate:

Courts since 1803

In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or landlords and so from 1806 the “Patrimonial Court of the Barons Riedesel zu Eisenbach” in Engelrod was responsible for Blitzenrod. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The second instance for the patrimonial courts were the civil law firms. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

With the founding of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance 1821–1822 were transferred to the newly created regional and city courts as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. For this purpose, the stately " Lauterbach Regional Court " was created, which was responsible for Blitzenrod. It was only as a result of the March Revolution of 1848 that the special civil rights were finally abolished with the “Law on the Relationships of Classes and Noble Court Lords” of April 15, 1848.

On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Lauterbach Local Court" and allocation to the district of the regional court of Giessen .
