Vilbel district

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The district of Vilbel was a district in the province of Upper Hesse of the Grand Duchy of Hesse with its seat in Vilbel . Founded in 1821, it was added to the Friedberg district in 1832 .

history

Emergence

In the course of the administrative reform of 1821 in the Grand Duchy, jurisdiction and administration were also separated at the lower level , and the tasks of the traditional offices were reorganized in district districts (responsible for administration) and district courts (responsible for jurisdiction). The district district Vilbel emerged from it

The district of Vilbel was thus permeated by aristocratic authorizations and obligations, sovereign rights that opposed the state's monopoly of force.

The tasks of the judiciary of the first instance , which had carried out the now dissolved offices, were transferred to the newly established district court Großkarben .

Further development

The state tried in the following time to replace the sovereign rights in the possession of the nobility, which existed in the area of the district of Vilbel, through contracts with the owners of the rights and to get them into their own hands. This was successful and happened against the chivalric right holders

  • on July 1, 1822 for Burg-Graefenrode,
  • also in 1822 for Engelthal,
  • Beginning of 1823 for Lindheim and
  • also in 1823 for Höchst an der Nidder.

Agreements could also be reached with the noblemen in 1823, but they were not so far-reaching:

  • A complex agreement was concluded with Solms-Rödelheim, in which responsibilities were shared between the state and the class. As far as the agreement concerned the district of Vilbel,
    • acted in Burg-Graefenrode the state district administrator now "on behalf of the class rule" and
    • the Hessian state shares in the Assenheim and Burg-Graefenrode condominiums were exchanged for the solms-rödelheimisch-noble shares in the Petterweil condominium.
  • It was agreed with the Counts of Isenburg-Wächtersbach that in Assenheim, Bönstadt and Bruchenbrücken the state district administrator would act “in the name of the class rule”.

He also moved from the Vilbel district in 1823

resolution

In the regional reform of 1832, the district councils were dissolved and merged into larger districts . Their layout was determined in a further regulation . The Vilbel district merged with the Friedberg district in the new Friedberg district .

Historical description

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports in 1829 on the district of Vilbel:

The situation is described as: “The district, which lies entirely in the fertile Wetterau, does not form a coherent whole, but Vilbel itself, then Rödelheim, Steinbach and Niederursel are not only of the main constituent, but also among themselves through the areas of the free city of Frankfurt, Churhessen and Nassau separately. Vilbel is to the south, and the rest of the towns are southwest of the whole. Half of Niederursel belongs to Frankfurt. The furthest away is Rödelheim. Including the isolated places, the district lies between 50 °, 10 'and 50 ° 20' north latitude, and between 26 °, 13 'and 26 °, 39' east longitude. The borders are to the north: the Friedberg district and the isolated part of the Büdingen district; to the east: the districts of Nidda and Büdingen; to the south: the Electorate of Hesse and part of the territory of the free city of Frankfurt; to the west: the Duchy of Nassau and the Landgraviate of Hesse Homburg. "

The natural texture as: “
a) Surface and soil. The district is traversed by gently undulating hills, and the soil, as in the Wetterau, is good and partly very fertile.
b) Waters: 1) the Nidda; 2) the nidder; 3) the weather; 4) the Erlenbach; 5) the Urselbach. "

The population as: “The population is 19,644 souls; among them are 14,685 Evangelicals, 3,669 Catholics, 1 Mennonite and 1289 Jews, who together live in 4 market towns, 25 villages, 1 hamlet and a total of 3237 houses. "

The natural products as: “Horses 1168; Foal 108; Bulls 61: oxes 202; Cows 4336; Cattle 833; Pigs 5196; Sheep 7050; Goats 579; Donkey 12. Waizen, grain, barley, oats, legumes, flax, a lot of fruit, cabbage, beets, fodder herbs, onions, some hops and wine. Basalt quarries are near Ilbenstadt, limestone quarries to small carrots. At Vilbel there are 2 quarries that supply stones that are particularly useful for smelting and glass furnaces. Niederursel has peat graves and a lignite warehouse is located in Niedereschbach, which delivers very good coal, but its construction has been abandoned because of the precious water pressure. There is a sour well at Vilbel, whose water is particularly tempted to Offenbach and Frankfurt. Two mineral springs are at Großkarben. One source is used only by the inhabitants, but the water is exported from the other. "

The trade and commerce as: “Agriculture, cattle breeding and handicrafts. The cultivation of grain, like the cultivation of fruit, is very important; some wine is made at Vilbel. The weaving mills are very busy in several places. Holzhausen has 72 weavers who make lots of whole and half-woolen clothes and woolen stockings. The same goods are prepared by 37 weavers in Rodheim. In Niedereschbach, the linen weavers are also numerous and mostly produce linen and half-woolen clothes for the factories in Friedrichsdorf in the Landgraviate of Hesse-Homburg. Wollkämmer are at Obererlenbach; Hosiery weavers to small carriages, where there are also many linen weavers. Großkarben, Petterweil also have many linen weavers. The brandy distilleries are important in Großkarben and Ilbenstadt. At Rödelheim there is a wax linen factory, like a snuff tobacco factory, and Niederursel has a tobacco and paper mill, just like Obereschbach has a paper mill, which only produces coarser types of paper and glossy cardboard. Grain can be exported in considerable quantities, namely from Holzhausen, Kleinkarben, Rodheim, etc. Vilbel does a not insignificant trade in cattle, fruit, and Viktualien . As already mentioned, sour water from Vilbel and Großkarben is mainly sold to Frankfurt and Offenbach. The highways that criss-cross the district in all directions are extremely beneficial for trade and are of great importance for the road industry. These roads are: 1) the main road from Frankfurt to Giessen, goes through Vilbel, Kloppenheim and Okarben; 2) the road from Niederwöllstadt to Büdingen, goes through Ilbenstadt and Altenstadt; 3) the road from Ilbenstadt to Hanau, goes through Kaichen, from here one also goes to Altenstadt and Heldenbergen; 4) Road from Frankfurt to Homburg, runs through Obereschbach; 5) Road from Frankfurt to Cronenberg, goes through Rödelheim; 6) Road from Vilbel to Offenbach.
