history

Former town hall, today's library

In the vicinity of Rendel there was a settlement that was mentioned in 774 as "Rantuvilre". In the German Empire , the village belonged to the Freigericht Kaichen , which came under the rule of the Burggrafschaft Friedberg in the 15th century . With this it fell in 1806 to the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

In Rendel, the particular law of the Kaichen Free Court, the Friedberger Police Regulations, applied . In 1679 it was renewed and printed. This is the first time that it can be put into writing. She mainly dealt with administrative , police and regulatory law . In this respect, the Solms land law remained the main source of law for the broad area of civil law . The Common Law was, moreover, if all these regulations did not contain provisions for a fact. This legal situation remained valid in the 19th century after Rendel had passed to the Grand Duchy of Hesse. It was not until the Civil Code of January 1, 1900, which was uniformly valid throughout the German Reich , that this old particular law was suspended.

A school building was built in 1592, and since 1872 the school has been located in the old town hall. In 1884 a new town hall was built with a syringe hall, into which the city library moved in 1977. In 1954 a new school building was built, followed by the sports hall in 1974. The central square in Rendel, Lindenplatz, was redesigned in 1987. In spring 2000, Rendel was accepted into the village renewal program of the state of Hesse .

On July 1, 1970, the city of Karben was created in the course of the regional reform in Hesse through the voluntary amalgamation of the previously independent communities Groß-Karben , Klein-Karben , Kloppenheim , Okarben and Rendel.

church

Protestant church

The Rendel parish church was first mentioned in 1192. In 1358 Heinrich, Herr zu Isenburg and Büdingen , the provost of the nearby Ilbenstadt Monastery , Konrad von Carben , donated the Parochial Church to Rendel. Until the dissolution of the monastery in 1803, the right of patronage remained, i.e. H. the right to fill the pastor's position at the Ilbenstadt monastery. On July 20, 1535, Konrad Gewend received the early measurement point in Rendel. He turned to the Augsburg denomination and was the first Protestant pastor in Rendel. At the time of the Reformation, the church was consecrated to Saints Nereus, Achilles and Pancras . At that time the church only consisted of the eastern part of today's church - the choir with the bell tower, structurally clearly separated from the nave, which was only added from 1706–1709.
