Heldenbergener Wetterau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heldenbergener Wetterau is a landscape in the southern Wetterau and in the northern Rhine-Main area. According to the handbook of the natural spatial structure of Germany , it is a basic unit of the southern Wetterau (no. 234.3; 261.98 km²), which it together with the Friedberger Wetterau (no. 234.30; 117.45 km²) and the Nidda-Aue ( No. 234.31; 18.94 km²). It is named after the place Heldenbergen (municipality of Nidderau ).

geography

Location and demarcation

The southwest corner of the Heldenbergener Wetterau is located at the confluence of the Nidder river and the Nidda near Gronau . A flat, undulating loess landscape stretches between the two rivers, rising slightly to the north-east of the Vogelsberg and increasingly being overlaid by remnants of its basaltic cover. The north-eastern border is therefore less pronounced and runs roughly from Staden to Lindheim .

landscape

The mighty loess layer with a thickness of up to 20 meters between the two rivers is only broken up by the edges. Today it is used intensively for agriculture. Like the neighboring hill country of Ronneburg , it rises to the northeast and is more fragmented there. The loess there is reduced to the trough-shaped depressions, while the higher layers represent full forms from the volcanic activity of the Vogelsberg. They are usually of loose sediments of Tertiary surrounded and forested predominantly today. South of the Nidder, the landscape becomes more diverse due to the red sandstone block of the Büdinger Forest that extends far to the west . Rotliegend sediments of clay and sandstones as well as conglomerates can be found along the rivers .
