Höchst an der Nidder is part of the Altenstadt community in the Wetterau district of Hesse .

Geographical location

Höchst is located in the south of the Wetteraukreis ( natural sub- unit Heldenbergener Wetterau ) near the border with the Main-Kinzig-Kreis . Located directly on the Nidder and on the federal highway 521 , Höchst is approx. 25 km from Frankfurt am Main .

history

Höchst was first mentioned in a document in May 1268 and was built around the former moated castle Hoesten. In the German Empire the village belonged to the Freigericht Kaichen . There was a Jewish community in the village , which had 30 members in 1830 and was dissolved in the 1930s. The former synagogue is in the alley . The half-timbered house was probably built at the beginning of the 19th century.

On October 1, 1971, Höchst ad Nidder was incorporated into the municipality of Altenstadt.

Attractions

The baroque castle of the Barons von Günderrode from the years 1718 to 1720 is in Höchst. The castle was used as a hotel in recent years, but is currently empty (2011).

Höchst has a primary school , a kindergarten , a corner shop , a gym and two churches (belonging to the SELK and EKD ).

In Höchst there is a stop on the Niddertal Railway , which is served every half hour during rush hour and every hour outside of rush hour and on weekends. Three bus stops allow connections u. a. to Büdingen and Nidderau .

Volcano cycle path

The volcano cycle path begins in Höchst and continues via Altenstadt, Lindheim and Enzheim on the former railway line from Stockheim to Lauterbach (Hesse) . Today the Vulkanradweg is part of the BahnRadweg Hessen , which runs on former railway lines for approx. 250 km through the Vogelsberg and the Rhön.
