Artur Doppelmayr
Artur Doppelmayr (born September 16, 1922 in Dornbirn ; † May 12, 2017 in Carinthia ) was an Austrian entrepreneur and cable car pioneer .
Life
Artur Doppelmayr was born in Dornbirn in 1922 as the son of the entrepreneur Emil Doppelmayr . His father and Sepp Bildstein built the first drag lift in Zürs am Arlberg in 1937 .
In 1954, Artur Doppelmayr graduated with a degree in engineering from the Graz University of Technology . In 1967 he became managing director of Konrad Doppelmayr & Sohn . He continued to run the Vorarlberg cable car company, which his grandfather Konrad Doppelmayr had founded in 1893, and made it the world market leader. In 1973 he built the first detachable gondola lift. In 1994 he moved to the supervisory board of Doppelmayr Holding . In addition to his achievements as an entrepreneur, Doppelmayr is a pioneer and role model in the globalization of an industrial company.
In 1997 he received his doctorate with distinction as Dr. techn. at the Technical University of Graz . In his doctoral thesis, he described how cable car accidents can be avoided.
Artur Doppelmayr had five children - four natural ones, including his successor Michael Doppelmayr , and an adopted daughter.
Awards
- In 1976 he received the title of " Honorary Senator" from the Technical University of Vienna .
- In 1982 he received the Great Merit of the State of Vorarlberg .
- In 1984 he was awarded the Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
- In 1985 he was appointed Honorary Consul of Finland .
- In 2001 he was awarded the Wilhelm Exner Medal for outstanding scientists and inventors for special achievements in commercial and industrial development in Austria.
- In 2001 he was awarded the professional title of professor by Federal President Thomas Klestil .
- In 2002 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor of the State of Carinthia .
- In December 2007, Artur Doppelmayr was awarded the Great Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria by the Minister for Economic Affairs and Labor, Martin Bartenstein, on behalf of the Federal President.
- He was also awarded the Order of First Class of Knighthood of the Finnish White Rose by the Republic of Finland.
