With almost 2650 inhabitants, Waldsiedlung is the largest district of the municipality of Altenstadt in the Wetteraukreis in Hesse after the core town . The settlement belongs to the district of Altenstadt.

location

Waldsiedlung is located in the Altenstadt district, southeast of the core municipality. The federal autobahn 45 passes east of the town and state road 3189 to the west . On the outskirts there is a large industrial area directly on the motorway.

history

Waldsiedlung is still a young place. It was only founded in 1936 with the construction of an air base. In order to make this better usable, a 3.9 km long siding was laid from Altenstadt train station to the Waldsiedlung in 1937/1938. Due to this favorable traffic connection, well-known companies settled there, including a. the motorcycle manufacturer Münch . For Waldsiedlung, a local district with a local advisory council and a local mayor was established.

The head of the forest settlement became the NPD functionary Stefan Jagsch in September 2019 . The unanimous election of the NPD politician in the local council led to irritation and horror, especially among those parties whose local council members had voted for Jagsch. Norbert Szielasko, representative of the CDU, declared that he had voted for Jagsch, because the local advisory board is independent and “we don't have anyone else - especially no younger person who is familiar with computers and who can send emails”. Since the appointment, there have been numerous discussions in the German media about the lack of volunteers in local politics .

The election of the mayor had become necessary because the previous incumbent, Klaus Dietrich (FDP), who only took office in July 2016, had resigned. The reason for the resignation says in the minutes: “The reason for the resignation is the political ineffectiveness of the local advisory board, since there is no decision-making authority here, and there are many examples that show that the community council or even the community council is not supported. Mr. Dietrich refrains from giving a detailed description of the problem that affects him, but clearly states that the Waldsiedlung local advisory board was and is not a nagging, constantly criticizing administrative body, but raised its voice for the district and its citizens. "

Due to great media pressure, Jagsch was finally voted out. The new local head of the forest settlement was the CDU deputy Tatjana Cyrulnikov (7/8 votes) in October 2019 .

Original transport links

In order to better supply the airfield with construction material, machine parts and fuel, contracts were signed on November 1, 1936 between the Deutsche Reichsbahn and the Reich Treasury Luftwaffe Luftgaukommando XII, Wiesbaden, for the construction of a 3.9 km long siding from Altenstadt (Hess) station to Airfield closed. For this purpose, a partial field adjustment was carried out with subsequent expropriation of the required land. As compensation, replacement land or were at nursery paid 3 to 13 cent per square meter. 59 property owners were expropriated in Altenstadt, 16 in Oberau , the latter were paid a total of RM 1294.75 .

After the war, the siding was to be used as a siding for freight wagons in need of repair. In order to prevent this and to keep the track usable for settling companies, the municipality bought the track for 78,830 RM in 1946. Until it was bought in 1962, lease was paid to the railway for the railway structure below . The siding was served by the Deutsche Bundesbahn , which used a small diesel locomotive until 1949 , a steam locomotive until 1965 and again a small diesel locomotive from the Heldenbergen-Windecken station from 1965. Due to the high operator fees of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (easy operation Altenstadt - Waldsiedlung 44 DM ), fewer companies settled in the forest settlement than had been hoped for. Many companies ordered trucks or had the wagons unloaded at Altenstadt train station and the last piece transported by truck. In 1966, the siding was used again to transport concrete pipes for the long-distance water pipeline to the forest settlement; 1000 wagons with construction material were transported in 14 months. Since the access road to the Waldsiedlung remained in poor condition until the beginning of the 1970s, the siding was not shut down until June 30, 1983, after the sleepers and the existing bridge had to be redeveloped for 1 million marks and the goods traffic only 145 wagons a year (mainly freight wagons for the Sundermann timber trade; today System Holz Handels GmbH ). Dismantling began on April 26, 1984. The only remnant that remained was the former railway bridge over the Nidder . Today there is a cycle and hiking trail on the route.

Others

There is a village community center with an adjoining festival area in the village .

The forest settlement has a very large industrial area, on which the industrial area of the neighboring municipality of Limeshain also finds its place. Due to the nearby motorway connection to the A 45, it is very easy to reach for commuters and freight traffic and is therefore predestined as a location for a central warehouse .
