description

The City Hall on the south side of Eastgate was built in 1753. A one-story grain market was added to the rear in 1860. In the 1960s, the building housed the Peebles fire station. Today business premises are set up there.

The two-story building is designed in a classical style. The north-facing front is three axes wide. The facades are plastered with Harl with natural stone details made of reddish sandstone . Flanking were two arched doorways leading to the inner courtyard. Of these, the one on the right has meanwhile been transferred to a business space with flat glass elements. A window ledge divides the facade horizontally. Three twelve-part lattice windows are arranged on the upper floor . A final triangular gable on corbels shows the city coat of arms and shows the year of construction. The elongated windows at the back have meanwhile been closed with masonry. The final platform roof is covered with reddish slate.
