Basdorf is part of the large community of Vöhl in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .

Geographical location

Basdorf is located on the northern hills above the Edersee in the northern part of the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park (right on the northern border of the park). Basdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1206. However, due to its favorable soil and water conditions, it was probably already an old settlement in the border area of ​​the Chatti and Cherusci . Together with the other places in Ittergau , it could already have had an important position for through traffic and for north-south trade.

Since the deanery Vöhl belonged to the spiritual jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Mainz , it can be assumed that the area of ​​nearby Fritzlar and Büraberg was Christianized by Boniface or his assistants even before Charlemagne's long-standing Saxon wars , in which the local border region was included has been.

The existing documents prove how Basdorf gradually became the property of the Werbe monastery and a small part of the Berich monastery from a village of independent hoof farmers . Furthermore, the documents show how the Ittergau , to which Basdorf belonged, was often an object of dispute and pledge of the surrounding stronger neighboring territories such as the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel and the later Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt , but also the Counts of Waldeck .

Development 1875–1974

The Basdorf children were given a new school in 1875 because a house in Asel that was bought for demolition was rebuilt as a day care center in Basdorf. In 1878 the village received a new hand pressure syringe . The men's choir was founded in 1879 by Johann Christian Bangert, who had once followed his wanderlust to Australia - he sailed 120 days - and who 20 years later brought back home sickness to Basdorf.

The Basdorf farmers became milk suppliers for the Höringhausen dairy in 1885 . In 1892 Basdorf became an independent parish with a branch in Oberwerba . In 1900 the stagecoach connection ended . In 1919 electricity and water were introduced. In 1920 the streets were illuminated and a threshing community was founded . The Basdorf gymnastics and sports club was founded in 1922. As a result of inflation, the use of grass on the planned paths was leased in 1923 at butter and egg prices and the remuneration of the mayor, organist and community calculator was set in rye currency. In 1934 the volunteer fire brigade was founded.

In 1946 Basdorf took in 165 displaced persons , the school got a lot of visitors and in 1948 hired a new teacher. Between 1952 and 1986 Basdorf was connected to the sewer system . In 1960, the Basdorf gymnastics and sports club was brought back to life as a football and sports club. School lessons in Basdorf ended in 1964 and the children now attended school in Vöhl.

On February 1, 1971, Basdorf was incorporated into the newly formed municipality of Vöhl as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

In 1972 Basdorf was the second most beautiful village in Hesse in the competition “Our village should be more beautiful” . In 1975 the village community center was handed over to its destination. In 2006 Basdorf celebrated its 800th anniversary with a week-long party.
