Oberorke is a small district of the municipality of Vöhl in the northern Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg and a state-approved climatic health resort . It lies on an elevation in the Orketal .
Geography and history
In the middle of a mountain landscape with two castles, surrounded by extensive deciduous and coniferous forests, lies the village, first mentioned in 1016 as "Orcana". The Kellerwaldsteig leads through Oberorke, the smallest district of the municipality of Vöhl with just under 100 inhabitants . In 1739 a half-timbered storey was built on top of the church, a much older substructure made of rubble stones.
At 31 December 1971 in the wake of were municipal reform in Hesse , the previously independent municipalities Oberorke, Buchenberg , Ederbringhausen , Harbshausen , Kirchlotheim , Niederorke and Schmittlotheim dissolved and merged to Hessenstein together .
On January 1, 1974, the municipality of Hessenstein was again merged by state law with Ittertal (consisting of the former municipalities of Dorfitter , Herzhausen and Thalitter ), Marienhagen , Obernburg and Vöhl to form the new large municipality of Vöhl. Local districts were established for all formerly independent communities .
On the occasion of the 1000th anniversary, Oberorke and its neighbor Niederorke organized a big anniversary celebration from 9th to 11th September 2016.
