Altenesch is a village in the municipality of Lemwerder in the Wesermarsch district in Lower Saxony . The place is located south of the core town of Lemwerder on the L 875 road . The Weser flows to the east, and the Ochtum flows into the Weser to the southeast . The B 212 runs to the west and the L 885 to the northwest.
history
The village is best known for the Battle of Altenesch , in which the Stedinger farmers were defeated by an army of the Archbishop of Bremen and the Counts of Oldenburg in 1234 . St. Gallus Church stands on the battlefield today . In addition, the St. Veit monument and the Thingstätte Stedingsehre commemorate this.
Until November 15, 1972, the entire municipality of Lemwerder was called "Altenesch".
