General map of Anhalt | |
The district of Zerbst was a district in Anhalt from 1863 to 1945 and a district in Saxony-Anhalt from 1945 to 1952 . The area of the former district today belongs to the districts of Anhalt-Bitterfeld and Wittenberg as well as to the independent city of Dessau-Roßlau .
location
The district lay between the Elbe and the Fläming north of Dessau . It bordered on the Prussian districts of Calbe , Jerichow I , Zauch-Belzig and Wittenberg and, to the south, on the Anhalt district of Dessau . The two exclaves Gödnitz and Dornburg belonged to the district .
history
In the Duchy of Anhalt , the six districts of Dessau , Bernburg , Köthen , Ballenstedt , Zerbst and Coswig were formed in 1863 . The Coswig district was dissolved as early as 1865 and incorporated into the Zerbst district. After the Duchy of Anhalt became the Free State of Anhalt in 1918 , the district was called the Zerbst District from 1933 . In 1935 the city of Zerbst left the district and became a district. The city of Roßlau did not belong to the district from 1935 to 1946, but was part of the city of Dessau during this time . After 1945, the district initially belonged to the newly formed province of Saxony-Anhalt , which in 1947 became the state of Saxony-Anhalt .
The communities Flötz , Gehrden , Güterglück , Kämeritz , Lübs , Moritz , Prödel , Schora , Töppel and Walternienburg were reclassified from the district of Jerichow I to the district of Zerbst in 1946 . During a regional reform in 1950, the city of Zerbst was reintegrated into the district; at the same time, the number of municipalities was reduced by a series of incorporations. On July 25, 1952, the states in the GDR were dissolved and replaced by districts , at the same time there was a comprehensive reorganization of most of the districts. From the eastern half of the Zerbst district with the cities of Roßlau and Coswig , the new Roßlau district was formed and assigned to the Halle district . The western half of the Zerbst district with the cities of Zerbst and Lindau has since formed the Zerbst district , which was assigned to the Magdeburg district .
