Tornau is a district of the city of Dessau-Roßlau in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

Tornau is located northwest of Dessau-Roßlau on the federal highway 184 leading from Zerbst to Dessau-Roßlau . The Rodleben district, which also belongs to Dessau-Roßlau, is southwest of Tornau . A larger forest area extends to the north.

history

It was first mentioned in a document in 1215 as Thornowe . The village was used at times as a Vorwerk . Tornau was then a separate community. In 1933 188 inhabitants lived in the village, in 1939 190 inhabitants. On July 1, 1950, Tornau was incorporated into the neighboring Rodleben. Together with Rodleben, Tornau has belonged to Dessau since January 1, 2005, or today Dessau-Roßlau.

Economy and Transport

Today Tornau is surrounded by large industrial areas. Several larger companies, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry, have production sites here. In the southern part Tornaus at Trebnitz-Leipzig railway , the Dessau with Magdeburg connects the station Rodleben . The railway line is crossed at ground level within Tornaus by federal highway 184 .
