Alten is a district of Dessau-Roßlau , an independent city in the state of Saxony-Anhalt . It is about four kilometers west of the city center.

history

The founding of the village of Alten goes back to an inheritance letter dated June 9th, 1709, before that there was already a Vorwerk . In 1743 with the establishment of Old was a Protestant church for Kirchdorf .

At the end of the 19th century, industry began to settle in the until then purely farming village, favored among other things by the opening of a train station on the Anhalter Bahn, which has been passing by since 1840 . The Alten Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1894 and has been providing fire protection and general assistance ever since . In 1900 the fire station was built at its current location. The Junkers & Co. factory built in Alten in 1906 gave rise to further economic growth . a. Gas heating systems and water heating devices are produced. In the same year the Catholic Church of St. Joseph was built. Junkers-Werke started aircraft production in Alten in 1915, Junkers Motorenbau was added in 1923, and the airfield north of the railway was built in 1924 . Alten continued to expand during this time with the construction of further settlements. At the end of the Second World War , the industrial facilities here were largely destroyed.

In 1980, construction began on the Kleine Schaftrift residential area , with prefabricated buildings for 2,300 new residents and a school.

Since 1994, considerable investments have been made to build the Dessau Municipal Clinic in Alten; the former Robert Koch Hospital, now St. Joseph Hospital, also moved to a new building at this location in 2006. In 1998 the new construction of the Anhalt vocational school center "Hugo Junkers" opened. A new line of the Dessau tram , which was built by 2002, leads from the main train station through Alten to the residential area Zoberberg a. the vocational school center and the clinic. The Bundeswehr closed its location in Dessau-Alten in 2007, and a golf course was built on the site in 2008 .

The place has a stop on the Dessau – Köthen railway line , the federal highway 185 has been leading around the buildings in Altens since a bypass road was built. The connection to the other districts of Dessau is made by two bus lines and a tram line of the Dessauer Verkehrsgesellschaft .

Alten was incorporated into Dessau on October 1, 1923.
