Törten , in dialect Tärtn , is a district of Dessau-Roßlau , an independent city in the state of Saxony-Anhalt . It is located on the Mulde in the southeast of Dessau between the old federal highway 184 (Heidestrasse) in the west and the federal highway 9 in the east.
Törten is best known for the Dessau-Törten settlement there . It was built by Walter Gropius according to the ideals of the Bauhaus between 1926 and 1928. The settlement was supposed to create inexpensive small row houses for workers. A total of 314 houses were built, the size of which varies between 57 and 75 square meters. When the settlement was expanded in 1930, the five portico houses in Dessau-Törten were built , which have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Bauhaus and its sites in Weimar, Dessau and Bernau since 2017 . Even Carl Fieger , architectural draftsman at the Bauhaus, built his own house there. Furthermore , the steel house built in 1926/1927 by Richard Paulick and the Bauhaus master Georg Muche is in Törten . .
Events
The so-called plum cake festival, a folk festival on the festival meadow at Bürgerplatz, has been taking place every year since 2006 .
