Walternienburg is a district of the city of Zerbst / Anhalt in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany). The place is partly named for the Walternienburg-Bernburger culture , a culture of the Neolithic Age .

Walternienburg between Zerbst / Anhalt and Barby is located on the Nuthe , which flows into the Elbe near the town . Parts of the municipality belong to the Middle Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve .

history

On September 30, 1928, the Walternienburg manor district was merged with the Walternienburg rural community.

Until December 31, 2009 Walternienburg was an independent municipality with the associated districts Ronney and Poleymühle. 519 inhabitants lived on a community area of ​​18.77 km² (December 31, 2008). On January 1, 2010 the incorporation into Zerbst / Anhalt took place.

The community colors are blue-gold (yellow).

The splitting of the shield by wave cuts symbolizes the proximity of the community to the Elbe river , the blue wave pole represents the Nuthe, above which the 1000-year-old tower of the former castle rises as a site-specific landmark of the community. The color blue symbolizes the water (Elbe and Nuthe), the metal gold the grain as an indication of the rural character of Walternienburg.

Elbe ferry

A road connection branches off from Schora on Bundesstrasse 184 via Güterglück and Walternienburg to the Gierseilferry in Ronney over the Elbe to Barby. There are further road connections to Zerbst and Leitzkau . In the neighboring village of Güterglück there are rail connections to Magdeburg and Dessau-Roßlau .

Walternienburg is a primary school location (also for the places Gehrden , Gödnitz , Güterglück , Hohenlepte , Moritz , Nutha as well as Lübs and Prödel , both districts of the city of Gommern ).
