history

Archaeological finds show that Germanic tribes settled in the area around today's Prödel as early as the Iron Age , i.e. around 500 BC . A thousand years later they were followed by the Slavs , who also gave Prödel his name. The first written mention took place in 1155 under the place name "Predele". At this point in time, Prödel must have already belonged to the Duchy of Saxony . He succeeded in creating an exclave around the city of Gommern through Albrecht the Bear in the area of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg , to which Prödel also came. The Saxon rule lasted until 1806, after which the office of Gommern was left to the French Kingdom of Westphalia before it was conquered by Prussia in the Wars of Liberation in 1813 . After the Prussian district reform of 1815, Prödel was incorporated into the Jerichow I district of the province of Saxony , in 1948 the place came into the Zerbst district , on July 1, 1994 in the Anhalt-Zerbst district and in the course of the Saxony-Anhalt district reform on July 1 2007 in the district of Jerichower Land.

From January 1, 1974 to March 31, 1990, Prödel was part of the municipality of Lübs.

From January 1, 2005 to June 30, 2007, the community was a member of the Elbe-Ehle-Nuthe administrative community . Before that she was a member of the Zerbster Land administrative community . On January 1st, 2008 it was incorporated into Gommern.

politics

Prödel was last headed by an eight-member local council. Mayor Jürgen Michalek, elected on May 13, 2001, is a member of the CDU and was the only candidate to receive the votes of 77.1 percent of the population entitled to vote.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on July 4, 1995 by the Dessau Regional Council.

Blazon : “Divided seven times by silver over red; topped with the green diamond wreath and a golden oblique left abbot's staff. "

The colors of the parish are silver (white) - red.

The coat of arms combines two old territorial coats of arms. The multiple division is borrowed from the coat of arms of the Burggrafschaft Magdeburg, and the sloping crown beam, also known as a diamond wreath, is an indication of the membership of the Duchy of Saxony-Wittenberg. The abbot indicates the ownership of the monastery. These manors were once responsible for Prödel. The Heraldische Gesellschaft “Schwarzer Löwe” Leipzig designed the coat of arms and registered it in the Quedlinburg coat of arms under QWR II / 92006 on March 3, 1992.

Saint Sebastian Church

Saint Sebastian Church

The beginnings of the Protestant church go back to the second half of the 12th century. The Romanesque nave, built from rubble stones, has largely been preserved to this day. In the 16th century the three-sided chancel was added to the east in the same width . The square west tower was also built from quarry stone in 1627 using an existing base. Its floor plan is narrower than the width of the nave. In the 18th century the tower was given its current appearance by adding a half-timbered floor with a tent roof.

While the nave is provided with a gable roof, the interior is closed with a richly painted wooden beam ceiling. A gallery is attached to the west wall . The altar is decorated with an essay carved by the Magdeburg artist Elias Dalheim in 1609, which shows the Last Supper scene in a colored relief . The upper part of a baptismal font from the late Romanesque period has been preserved. The epitaphs placed in the church date from the 18th century . In 2002 the interior of the church was thoroughly renovated.
